How points work
A plain-language guide to how teams earn season points. For the official rules, see the FASA Rulebook.
The short version
Every registered team starts each season with 100 registration points, paid or not. Paying online and paying early can add bonuses. Eligible tournament finishes add points based on place and tournament type; CAMP awards no season points.
Points rank teams on the Points page. Your earned class comes from classification rules and eligible bracket record, not your point total. See How classification works for that.
Points by where you finish
Here is what each finishing place is worth at a Standard Qualifier. Every team that plays earns something, even if it does not place.
| Finish | Points |
|---|---|
| 1st | 100 |
| 2nd | 75 |
| 3rd | 50 |
| 4th | 40 |
| 5th | 30 |
| 6th | 20 |
| 7th | 20 |
| Played, did not place | 10 |
| No-show | 0 |
These are the base points for a Standard Qualifier. Bigger tournaments multiply them · see below.
Bigger tournaments are worth more
The base points above get multiplied by the tournament's tier. A win at a State Tournament is worth a lot more than a win at a regular Qualifier.
- Qualifier: 1×
- NIT: 2×
- Regional Qualifier: 3×
- State: 3×
- World Series: 4×
- National Tournament: 4×
- Showcase: 1×
- League: 1×
- MVP: 1×
- CAMP: no season points
Showcase results DO count toward season points, at the same ×1 as a Standard Qualifier.
A couple of real examples
A 12U Open team that finishes 1st in a Qualifier earns 100 points. Second place earns 75.
That same 1st-place finish at a State Tournament is worth 300 (100 x 3). Win an NIT and it is 200 (100 x 2).
Double-Points Weekends
A handful of weekends each year are Double-Points Weekends. If your tournament ENDS during one of these windows, its finish points double on top of the tournament's tier multiplier. So a 1st-place finish at a State Tournament that ends on a Double-Points Weekend is worth 600 (100 x 3 x 2). Registration, card and early-payment bonuses do not double.
The current windows are:
- January 4 to 17
- February 15 to 22
- March 8 to 19
- April 12 to 19
- May 12 to 17
- June 7 to 14
- July 5 to 12
- August 9 to 16
- September 6 to 12
- October 4 to 11
- November 8 to 15
- December 6 to 13
What counts is the tournament's END date · if the last day of the tournament falls inside a window, the whole tournament is double points.
Registration and payment bonuses
These bonuses apply once per team per season. Early-payment points use the date the season's sanction fee was paid, not the date the team was created.
| Bonus | Points | How you earn it |
|---|---|---|
| Registration | 100 | Every registered team, paid or not |
| Online payment | 100 | The season's sanction fee was paid online (card or bank account) |
| Early payment | 100 | Fee paid before October 1 |
| Early payment | 50 | Fee paid on or after October 1, before January 1 |
| Early payment | 0 | Fee paid on or after January 1, or not yet paid |
The maximum is 300 bonus points per season. October 1 is in the season's starting year; January 1 is in its ending year. Points alone do not show whether a team has paid.
Seasons reset
A FASA season runs August 1 to July 31. Each new season starts with 100 registration points per registered team. Nothing carries over from the previous season.
How the system adds it up
Once an eligible tournament is closed and its order of finish is posted, the system works out each team's finish points:
- Start with the base points for your finishing place.
- Multiply by the tournament's tier (×1, ×2, ×3, or ×4).
- Double it if the tournament ended on a Double-Points Weekend.
- Add the result to your season total.
The Points page adds eligible closed-tournament finish points to the season's registration and payment bonuses. Draft, unfinished, deleted and test tournaments do not contribute.
What the "Qualified" badge means
Some teams show a green "Qualified" badge on the Points page. That is about the World Series, and it is separate from points and class. A team is qualified once it has played a State or Regional Qualifier, or finished in the top two at an NIT. Directors can also waive a team in.
